Internship-trained veterinarians are a select group of doctors who have completed highly sought after postgraduate internships at major training hospitals and have demonstrated academic and clinical excellence.
- Specialists in Internal Medicine – Place on the Park is one of a few New York City animal hospitals that has board-certified specialists in veterinary internal medicine. This specialized level of knowledge and experience allows us to provide expert diagnosis of organ diseases in dogs and cats, and prescribe advanced medical and nursing care.

Charles N. Berk, DVM
Dr. Charles Berk, who has been affiliated with DVM’s Battery Park and West Village Veterinary Hospitals since 2008, first worked with animals as a kennel assistant for his local veterinarian while attending high school in Valley Stream, NY. “I always loved animals and knew that I wanted to be a veterinarian.” After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, he attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Berk was awarded an internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY. Dr. Berk has special interests in pet health including animal dermatology and dentistry. In addition to being one of the few USDA-accredited veterinarians in lower Manhattan, he is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society and the Veterinary Medical Association of NYC. Dr. Berk is glad to be pursuing his dream back near his family and hometown. He has three cats (Wallace, Itty Bitty, and Mamma Cass) and one dog (Duncan) sharing the house with his wife (Victoria) and daughter (Emma).
Kerry McLaughlin, VMD
Dr. Kerry McLaughlin is originally from Middletown, NJ and always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian from a young age. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Lehigh University. During her undergraduate years she also completed an externship at the Lehigh Valley Zoo and spent a semester abroad in Australia. Dr. McLaughlin went on to receive her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. Following graduation, she was awarded an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey. During her internship, Dr. McLaughlin developed special interests in soft tissue surgery, emergency medicine, and cardiology. When not practicing veterinary medicine, she enjoys running, spending time at the beach, exploring new restaurants, and hiking with her rescue dog, a boxer mix named Byron!
